The problem

The owner of two buildings runs chillers and cooling towers floor by floor across them. To judge each unit, the team needs the inlet and outlet water temperatures of every chiller and cooling tower side by side, on one screen.

What was installed

The installation used 52 TCS1100-LR pipe-clamp sensors with PT100 elements and Teflon leads (2 sets with 20 m leads, 50 sets with 10 m leads), 10 ABS signal converter boxes and 6 industrial 5-port switch hubs. Each measurement point pairs an inlet and an outlet sensor; the network diagram shows 26 points across the two buildings, linked over RS485 (19200 baud), fibre and the plant network. Each reading approximates the pipe's surface temperature and tracks changes in the water temperature inside.

The outcome

The dashboard lists every chiller and cooling tower by floor with inlet, outlet and temperature difference, using chilled-water ΔT = inlet − outlet and cooling-water ΔT = outlet − inlet. The screenshot in the catalogue is time-stamped 4 May 2024. With both temperatures for every unit on one screen, the team can see when one unit's temperature difference moves away from the others.
